Methodology
How TechRank works
Scores are designed to measure evidence, not advertising spend. This page documents what we measure, how it is weighted and how you can challenge it. Scoring is not live yet: profiles currently show company-stated facts with their sources, and say “Not yet analysed” where a score will appear.
The TechRank Score
Each company receives a score from 0 to 10 built from seven weighted dimensions. Scores are reproducible, carry an update date and every manual override is audited.

Evidence, not claims
Every AI capability signal shows its evidence, source URL, detection date and confidence. Signals are labelled Company claimed, Platform detected or Platform verified. AI Verified badges come in Basic (evidence of AI services), Advanced (evidence of real AI projects or products) and Expert (strong evidence across services, projects, stack and case studies).
Reviews
A reviewer must confirm their email address by a link we send, and a member of our team reads every review before it is published. Each person can review a company once, and a review written from the reviewed company's own email domain is never published. We label each review "Business email confirmed" or "Email confirmed"; we do not check that the writer was a customer, so we never call a review a verified customer. Companies can write one response to each review, which we also approve first, and can report a review to us, but they cannot remove or edit reviews. Ratings on a profile are a plain average of published reviews and are not part of any score yet.
Profile badges
Some profiles show badges: Claimed profile (the company proved it can act for the profile and we approved the claim), Complete profile (a claimed profile with its description, facts, services, technologies, work examples and reviews filled in), Shares its work (at least one project or case study that we approved, written by the company and not verified by us) and Responds to reviews (published responses to at least 80% of at least two reviews). Badges describe what a company has done on its profile. They cannot be bought, they do not affect where a company appears in results, and they say nothing about the quality of its work.
Paid placement and independence
Payment never changes organic ranking or scores. Sponsored content, if offered, is clearly labelled and kept separate from ranked lists. TechRank is not affiliated with the companies it lists.
Data sources and crawling
We use company-provided information, publicly observable website signals and client reviews.
The free website tools
When you enter an address in one of our tools, our server (identifying itself as TechRankBot) reads that one page and the site's robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt. It stops if the site's robots.txt asks automated tools not to fetch the page. It does not follow links to other pages, does not run scripts, and does not store the page or the report. Only public web addresses are accepted: addresses on private networks are refused. Use is limited per visitor and per site. Reports list what passed, what needs attention and what was not looked at; they never give a single score, because a number would hide what was not measured. Technology detection shows the evidence for each match, and a technology that is not listed may still be in use.
Scheduled checks of listed companies
About once a week, the same TechRankBot reads the home page of each company listed here, using the same checks as the free website analyzer, and keeps the result so a company can see whether its site is getting better. It reads one page plus robots.txt, the sitemap and llms.txt, visits one site at a time, and skips any site whose robots.txt asks automated tools to stay away. The findings are facts about the public page on the day it was read: they are not a score and do not change a company's position in any list. To stop the visits, add User-agent: TechRankBot with Disallow: / to your robots.txt, or write to us from the company's address.
AI statements on company websites
To show what a company says about its AI work, the same weekly visit passes the visible text of the company's own home page to a language model, which is asked to pick out sentences where the company describes AI services. Every sentence it returns must appear word for word on the page, otherwise it is discarded, and a member of our team reviews each one before anything is used. Nothing a visitor or company types is sent to the model, and the model is not used to write, rank or score anything. What is shown on a profile is always the company's own statement, not a TechRank verification, and it can be taken down on request.
Company profiles
Profiles are compiled from each company's own public website, with the source and the date checked on every page. We avoid collecting personal data.
Challenging information
If something is wrong, claim the profile and correct it, or follow the correction policy. Material changes to the methodology are published here with a date.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can a company pay to improve its score?
No. Scores are calculated from evidence only. Paid plans may add features such as analytics, but they never alter scores or organic rank. Sponsored placements are always labelled and shown separately.
What does ‘Company claimed’, ‘Platform detected’ and ‘Platform verified’ mean?
Company claimed means the company stated it. Platform detected means TechRank found supporting evidence automatically. Platform verified means the evidence was reviewed and confirmed. Marketing claims alone never qualify as verified.
How are reviews verified?
Where possible, by business email, project evidence or customer confirmation, with moderation and anti-fraud checks such as rate limits, duplicate detection and similarity checks. Reviews are labelled verified or unverified. We never promise every review is perfectly verified.
How can a company challenge incorrect information?
Claim the profile and edit it, or use the correction process in the correction policy. Disputed items are reviewed and changes are logged.
